Pay for performance, public reporting and disparities: what do we know?

Casalino L, Belman M, Doran T, Werner R. Pay for performance, public reporting and disparities: what do we know? Paper presented at: AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting; 2008 Jun 8; Washington, DC.

Abstract:

Roundtable: Do pay for performance and public reporting programs increase or decrease racial/ethnic/socioeconomic disparities in health care, or leave them unchanged? What do we know? How might programs be devised that would be likely to avoid unintended consequences and to reduce disparities? The panelists will discuss research in the UK; the experience of Blue Cross and the Integrated Healthcare Association in California; and several important lines of research into pay for performance and public reporting.
