Workshop Objectives: 1. To describe diabetes and related complications among veterans receiving VA health care.

2. To describe VA diabetes care utilization and cost.

3. To describe innovative VA diabetes care strategies.

4. To describe VA-wide diabetes research.

Workshop Activities: Course faculty will present highlights from the Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC) Supplement, "Diabetes in the VA" soon to be published in Diabetes Care. Information presented will include diabetes complications, patient self-management, quality improvement, clinical guidelines, pharmacy findings, health care utilization and cost. The extent of VA and non VA sponsored diabetes research conducted by VA investigators will be described. A question and answer session will give participants an opportunity to discuss findings and additional areas for research.
