HSR&D Field-Based Meetings for FY 2010

HSR&D provided support for seven Field-Based Meetings in FY 2010, using previously established mechanisms for funding scientific meetings and conferences. See below brief information about each of these meetings.

Mental Health

April 27-29, Little Rock, AR

This meeting highlighted ongoing and completed research designed to improve access to, engagement in, and quality of care that will fill gaps in existing knowledge and address pressing mental health system needs that are high priority for HSR&D and VHA leadership. The meeting involved researchers in collaboration with VHA mental health stakeholders to develop a research agenda designed to support the T21 initiatives which include access to and coordination of care.

Rural Health

May 5-6, Portland, ME

This meeting was a collaboration with the VA Office of Rural Health who is co-sponsoring/co-funding the meeting. The meeting provided a platform for interactions and collaborations among researchers, implementation experts, providers, and policy makers in the field of rural health aimed to improve care and access for rural Veterans and lead to policy decisions informed by research methods and evidence.

Long-Term Care

June 9-10, Rochester, NY

Quality Improvement in Parallel Circuits: VA System Redesign, Operational Systems Engineering, and Implementation Research

July 14-15, Indianapolis, IN

This meeting built partnerships with the VA Engineering Resource Centers (VERCs), the VA HSR&D QUERI Centers, and representatives from VA OQP and Operations Offices to identify improvement strategies employed by the various participants and to strategize on further spread of these. In addition, the meeting focused on identifying key areas and mechanisms for ongoing joint implementation collaborations and translation interventions.

Women's Health

July 15-16, Washington, DC

This meeting built on the 2004 research agenda setting meeting by strengthening the collaboration between stakeholders including the Women Veterans Health Strategic Healthcare Group, Office of Mental Health and Primary Care. The meeting participants reviewed the existing research and the updated evidence synthesis report on women's health and will include a workshop on the Women Veterans' Practice-based Research Network (PBRN).

Implementation Science

July 19-20, Denver, CO

This meeting built on the 2008 QUERI-supported workshop for GRECC and MIRECC researchers and ongoing training aimed at building knowledge and skills in implementation research. The meeting included scientific workshops and paper sessions aimed at advancing VA work in the field of implementation research, thus promoting partnerships among QUERI Centers, HSR&D Centers of Excellence, and VHA operations partners.

Equity

September 13-14, Boston, MA

This conference promoted collaboration and 'out of the box' thinking on reasons for health care disparities, promising intervention strategies, and best ways to implement successful interventions across VA nationally. Core areas of the conference program included: interventions to reduce health care disparities, and health equity and implementation research.
