QUERI National Meeting 2008: Connecting Research and Patient Care

Call for Reviewers

Note: Reviewer sign-up has closed. Thank you for your interest.
The information from the Call for Reviewers is provided below for reference.

VA's Health Services Research and Development Service (HSR&D) will conduct their Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) National Meeting from December 10-12, 2008. The theme for this year's meeting is Connecting Research and Patient Care. The meeting will include plenary presentations, poster sessions, and workshops which focus on the vital connection between research and operations to facilitate the implementation of interventions that improve the quality of veterans' healthcare.

QUERI investigators, HSR&D researchers, and other VA staff who are involved in implementing or studying interventions to improve health care are invited to submit abstracts for either Workshop or Poster presentations. This is a Call for Reviewers for the submitted abstracts. We are interested in reviewers with expertise in implementation science, which focuses on all aspects of research relevant to the scientific study of methods to promote the uptake of research findings into routine healthcare. Particular areas of related interest include but are not limited to:

  • Organizational readiness for change/managing change;
  • Moving from evidence-based research to implementation tools, e.g., quality indicators, clinical practice guidelines, and reminders;
  • Spread and sustainability of evidence-based interventions; and
  • Data and informatics.

Abstracts will be randomly assigned to reviewers (you will receive an e-mail with a user name and password when abstracts are ready for review) and reviewers will score abstracts and submit scores via a password-protected web site. Each abstract will be assigned up to five reviewers who will provide an overall score on a 7-point scale. These scores will be averaged and final decisions will be made by the Abstract Review Committee. You will have the option to opt out of a particular review if you have a conflict of interest, or if you feel the abstract is outside your area of expertise.

Timeline

The call for abstracts has already been released and the abstract submission form is available on this website. The deadline for electronic submission of abstracts is Friday, July 18, 2008. Abstracts will be dispersed electronically to the Abstract Reviewers by July 25. The deadline for review and electronic scoring of abstracts is August 8, allowing a 14-day window for the abstract review process.
