VA HSR&D Researcher Ashish Jha Provides Commentary on NPR about his findings published in NEJM RE Electronic Health Records
VA HSR&D investigator Ashish Jha, MD, MPH, a staff physician at the Boston VA Medical Center and a faculty member at the Harvard School of Public Health co-authored the paper, "Use of Electronic Health Records in U.S. Hospitals", which was published in April 16 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Jha was also recently featured on the National Public Radio (NPR) program, On Point, in a conversation discussing electronic medical records (EMRs).
Dr. Jha's study sought to understand why, despite a consensus that health information technology could be more efficient, no reliable estimates exist regarding the adoption prevalence and use of EMRs in U.S. hospitals. Dr. Jha's investigation determined that only 1.5% of U.S. hospitals have a comprehensive electronic records system. His appearance on NPR coincided with the publication of the study.
