Kipling M. Bohnert, PhD, is a Core Investigator at the VA Ann Arbor HSR&D Center for Clinical Management Research (CCMR) and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Dr. Bohnert received his BA in Public Health Studies from the Johns Hopkins University and his PhD in Epidemiology from Michigan State University. After earning his PhD, Dr. Bohnert completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Health Services Research at CCMR and the VA National Serious Mental Illness Treatment Resource and Evaluation Center (SMITREC) in Ann Arbor. Dr. Bohnert's broad research interests include: understanding the causes and consequences of substance use and substance use disorders (SUDs), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other psychiatric conditions; examining factors associated with access to, and continuation of, mental health care; developing and testing interventions aimed at optimizing care for Veterans with SUDs, PTSD, and other psychiatric conditions. His HSR&D Career Development Award, "VA Healthcare Delivery for OEF/OIF Veterans with Mental & Substance Use Disorders," is focused on understanding and improving PTSD treatment initiation and engagement among Veterans who served in the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
