Dr. Matthew Bair’s program of research is focused on improving pain and depression management in the VA, for which he received a VA Career Development Award in 2005. In 2008, he received a VA HSR&D Career Development Transitional Award (CDTA) to continue this research agenda. Dr. Bair’s long-term research objective is to develop and test interventions that combine pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments that address some of the barriers to effective pain management that can be practicably applied in VA care settings. Since 2008, he has had three funded clinical trials (ESCAPE, CAMEO, and POYSE) to address pain management in the primary care setting.
