Dr. Joseph Francis is the Director of Clinical Analytics and Reporting for the Veterans Health Administration since March 2011. In this role, he leads a multi-disciplinary staff responsible for using VA’s comprehensive electronic health record to track health system performance and provide clinicians and managers with analytic and information tools that support improved patient outcomes. His office also coordinates patient experience assessment in support of patient-centered care, and coordinates public reporting of VHA performance data as part of agency efforts to promote informed patient decisions as well as advance government transparency and accountability. Prior to his current position, Dr. Francis had served as the VHA Chief Quality and Performance Officer between 2009 and 2011, the VHA Deputy Chief Research and Development Officer between 2007 and 2008, and the Director of the HSR&D Quality Enhancement Research Initiative between 2004 and 2007. His professional memberships and associations include the American College of Healthcare Executives, American College of Physicians, and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
