Dr. Pizer is the Director of Health Care Financing and Economics at the VA Boston Healthcare System and an Associate Professor in the Northeastern University Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Economics. His research interests include health econometrics, comparative effectiveness, access to care, and the economics of public and private health insurance. His previous work studied health care financing decisions and health outcomes of Veterans who were jointly eligible for coverage from Medicaid and the VA. In addition, he provided expert advice and conducted analyses of the Medicare Advantage program for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Currently, Dr. Pizer is investigating the effects of variations in mental health resources on outcomes for Veterans with substance use disorders and he is involved in several observational studies measuring the comparative effectiveness of diabetes medications, medical and surgical treatments for carotid artery disease, treatment options for localized prostate cancer, and alternative anti-coagulation therapies.
