Donna L. Washington, MD, MPH, a general internist and health services researcher at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, is the Women’s Health Focused Research Area Lead for the VA HSR&D Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation, and Policy (CSHIIP), Director of the VHA Office of Health Equity-Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (OHE-QUERI) Partnered Evaluation Center, and Professor of Medicine at the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine. She is one of the Directors for the VA-UCLA Advanced Fellowship in Women's Health, and part of the core faculty for the UCLA-VA multi-campus health services research fellowships. Dr. Washington’s research interests include access to healthcare, quality of care, and healthcare disparities for women and racial/ethnic minorities. Her research has examined the health and health care of women Veterans, identifying health care barriers and health delivery preferences of VA users and nonusers, defining the association between women’s health care delivery model and patient experience of care, and characterizing pathways into homelessness among women Veterans. Her current work in women’s health is evaluating technology-supported innovations for women’s healthcare provider education and clinical support. The OHE-QUERI Partnered Evaluation Center that Dr. Washington leads is applying a population health framework to systematically characterize health and health care disparities for vulnerable populations across the VA healthcare system. Dr. Washington received her undergraduate degree from Harvard-Radcliffe Colleges, her Medical Degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and her Master’s in Public Health from the UCLA School of Public Health. She completed a Primary Care Internal Medicine residency at UCSF-San Francisco General Hospital, and the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Washington is a recipient of VA HSR&D Research Career Development Awards, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Amos Medical Faculty Development Program award.
