Dr. Daniel Kivlahan’s research over the past 30 years has been focused on improving the care of patients with substance use disorders (SUD). He has extensive experience as co-Investigator and methodologist on several randomized clinical trials of interventions for veterans and non-veterans with SUD, and has collaborated with CTN Investigators on multiple research projects designed to improve the quality of addiction services in the VA Healthcare System. Dr. Kivlahan is currently the National Mental Health Program Director for Addictive Disorders in Mental Health Services at VA Central Office. VA SUD specialty-care programs are challenged to meet the comprehensive treatment needs of patients with complex SUD such as comorbid mental health problems and homelessness
