Synthesizing Evidence from Publications

Researchers from the HSR&D Evidence Synthesis Program are working with the World Health Organization to help synthesize publications about the novel coronavirus and COVID-19, and to translate that information into usable guidance for clinicians. To date, the ESP group has completed three reports: "Risk of Transmitting COVID-19 During Nebulizer Treatment"; "Intensive Care Unit Length of Stay and Ventilation Days"; and "Corticosteroid Therapy & ARDS for COVID-19 Infection." More are in the works. These three reports can be found on www.covid19reviews.org. The goal is to capture the work of evidence-synthesis groups, like VA's, around the U.S. and the globe and thereby avoid duplication of effort and maximize the contribution of these researchers. The catalog will be maintained by the VA ESP Coordinating Center in Portland, Oregon. New evidence reviews and reviews in progress are identified through literature searching and correspondence with colleagues and content experts. The team has also set up a list-serve to facilitate collaboration among systematic review researchers.

VA ORD SharePoint site - COVID-19 for the VA Research Community (VA network access only) -
FAQs related to COVID-19 - Please thoroughly read the FAQs developed by ORD on the share point site (under ORD Notices and Guidance); they will be updated weekly based on questions we receive from the field. Of special importance is the diagram on project modifications (PMO) at the end of the FAQs.
Note: TEMPORARY changes in Aims, Methods, or PI Effort, in response to COVID-19 do NOT require a Project Modification. However, when budget changes related to COVID-19 need to be executed at this time, submit a PMO. When it is known that a project extension is needed, submit a PMO for review no later than 3-months before the current end date. If you are unclear, please contact your program managers in the individual services.
