Description: Whether higher physician workload causes physician turnover is an important policy question. There is limited evidence on whether there is a causal effect of physician workload, which is often managed through productivity standards, on physician turnover. We believe this is because data on physician productivity and turnover is not easily available, and because there are unobservable characteristics which bias estimates of the relationship between productivity and turnover. In this presentation we will discuss how we attempt to overcome this bias using instrumental variables. Target audience: Mental Health providers, researchers, and policy makers.
