Description: Military related mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) have been a common feature of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, however there are limitations in current diagnostic tools of mTBI such as clinical assessment and imaging. Biomarkers sourced from blood and saliva provide an opportunity to meet this measurement gap. This presentation will provide an overview of the most promising candidate protein and microRNA biomarkers and discuss their utility in the diagnosis of mTBI, monitoring of recovery, and in establishing a prognosis of resultant dysfunction and neurodegenerative disease. Intended Audience: Clinicians and researchers with an interest in diagnostic tools in the acute setting and in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment modalities in the rehabilitation setting.
