Description: Abstract: Decreasing low-value (i.e., ineffective or harmful) healthcare practices (de-implementation) may require different approaches than those used to promote uptake of effective practices (implementation). Yet, the distinction between de-implementation and implementation is not well represented in methods for designing behaviour change interventions and variations in effectiveness may result from failure to consider this distinction. This presentation summarizes recent work conducted in the field of de-implementation to identify if and how distinctions exist and implications for future work.

Target audience: The target audience for this presentation includes implementation researchers and scientists as well as clinical change agents interested in learning about de-implementation and reducing low-value healthcare.
