Congratulations to Lucinda Leung, MD, PhD, on being named a 2023 Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine Scholar by the National Academy of Medicine!

Dr. Leung is a Career Development Awardee and is part of HSR&D’s Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation & Policy and VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. Her work focuses on optimizing mental health care access and quality for primary care populations using team-based care models and virtual modalities. She conducts quality improvement and operations-partnered research as part of the VISN 22 Veterans Assessment & Improvement Laboratory and the Primary Care Analytics Team, where she leads evaluations of national primary care initiatives, such as the implementation of the Primary Care-Mental Health Integration model in VA clinics across the country.

Dr. Leung is one of 10 Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine (ELHM) Scholars selected this year by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) to serve a three-year term to engage in, and learn from, activities under the NAM umbrella, addressing vital topics in health and medicine. ELHM Scholars participate in a range of activities, including meeting with each other and NAM leadership to provide input that can help shape the NAM’s priorities and advance knowledge and progress in science, medicine, policy, and health equity.
