Gayle Reiber, Ph.D., M.P.H. Recieves 2011 Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award


Gayle E. Reiber, M.P.H., Ph.D., of the HSR&D Center of Excellence in Seattle has received the 2011 Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award from the University of Washington School of Public Health. The award recognizes Dr. Reiber's excellence in mentoring (academic, career, and personal), advocacy, and leadership.

In presenting her with this award, University of Washington faculty noted that, "Dr. Reiber has been an instrumental force in guiding students toward academic and research goals. Whether in pursuit of research ideas, funding, post-degree employment or dealing with administrative matters, she is a fierce advocate on behalf of her students. Dr. Rebier has a strong commitment to teaching and preparing the next generation of research scientists for success. Students appreciate her straightforward, enthusiastic approach and her encouragement of their pursuits."

Dr. Reiber's research interest includes prevention and treatment of diabetes and lower extremity complications, and diabetes self-care and enhancement programs. Dr. Reiber is an HSR&D Senior Research Career Scientist and is active in VA pre- and postdoctoral training programs. She has published a number of articles about diabetic limb loss and prosthetics, and has been involved in state, federal, and international diabetes program planning initiatives.
