Description: Using exemplars of VA- and NIH-funded implementation science projects addressing either physical or mental illness, we will discuss 1) the selection and use of conceptual models and frameworks to guide study design; 2) Type 2 and Type 3 implementation/effectiveness hybrid study designs; 3) multifaceted implementation strategies; and 4) mixed methods to capture implementation strategy effectiveness. Common challenges and solutions to conducting implementation science studies will be described. Intended Audience: new and established researchers in the field of implementation science, grant reviewers, clinical leaders and policymakers.
