Prazosin for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Comorbidities: Toward a Precision Medicine Approach

by Murray Raskind, MD
Seminar date: 1/4/2018

Description: Prazosin, a brain penetrant alpha 1 adrenoreceptor antagonist, has been demonstrated effective for combat trauma PTSD in active duty soldiers who experienced mTBIs in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. Higher pretreatment blood pressure is a biomarker that predicts greater PTSD symptom reduction during prazosin treatment. Persistent postconcussive headaches and alcohol use disorder are additional mTBI comorbidities responsive to prazosin and other brain penetrant alpha 1 AR antagonists. Intended audience: provider prescribers, pharmacists, other healthcare professionals caring for Veterans, and Veterans themselves.
