When is a Replication, a Replication? An Interview Study of How Intervention Researchers Manage Adherence and Adaptations in the Research Process

by Ulrica von Thiele Schwarz, PhD
Seminar date: 6/14/2018

Description: This presentation builds on data from interviews with intervention researchers and explores how they reason about adaptations and adherence when conducting replication studies. The findings illuminate the colliding ideals they face when trying to protect the internal validity of the study while considering adaptations to ensure that the intervention fits into the context. The way adherence and adaptations are managed has implications for the design as well as the reporting of intervention studies, and for how the findings across studies are synthesized. Intended audience: primarily researchers involved in the research-to-practice pathway, and practitioners using evidence-based interventions in their practice.
