Updated Virtual Facilitation Guidance: Innovation, Challenges and Opportunities

by Katherine Dollar, PhD ; JoAnn Kirchner, MD ; Jeffrey Smith, ; Eva Woodward, PhD
Seminar date: 4/13/2020

Description: In light of recent national VHA travel restrictions, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, many facilitation projects no longer have the option to travel for site visits and must consider alternative processes, including Virtual Facilitation. In 2015, there was a VHA travel ban, and a workgroup was formed that compiled an expert consensus statement addressing facilitation in a virtual format. Since virtual capabilities have evolved and advancements have been made, the Implementation Facilitation Learning Collaborative (IFLC) is hosting a call in April 2020 to gather updates from those with recent virtual experiences, identify new challenges, and generate solutions to inform current implementation facilitation practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation will highlight both the 2015 expert consensus statement and recent experiences and best practices from facilitation experts identified through the IFLC. Intended Audience: Investigators, implementation practitioners, and clinicians interested in applying effective virtual implementation support strategies focusing on implementation facilitation, to help frontline providers successfully implement and sustain new clinical programs and practices.
