Seminar date: 6/2/2014

Description: Comorbidity assessment is a useful and important means of accounting for differences in patients' underlying health status. This program provides an overview of current approaches to and issues in assessing comorbidity using VA and Medicare claims data. In addition, efforts to improve measurement of comorbidity using claims data are described. Some guidance on how this might change when ICD-10 rolls out will be discussed. Finally, caveats about claims data and areas of current research in claims-based comorbidity assessment also are discussed.
