Description: The talk will review the recommended first-line treatments for PTSD and will share gender differences in prescribing patterns that we have noted between women and men. A consistent pattern of increased prescribing of psychotropic medications among women will be presented as well as possible explanations for that difference. Information regarding common co-occurring disorders will be presented and the potential role of these disorders as an explanation will be reviewed. Finally, a discussion of tools and resources that might help with this issue will be offered. Target Audience: The talk is aimed at a wide range of clinicians. Not only will prescribing clinicians in Primary Care and Mental Health benefit from this information but nurses, clinical pharmacists and psychotherapy clinicians will learn valuable information.
