2010 — Enhancing Success for Nurse Investigators

Workshop Objectives:
The career trajectory for new nurse investigators is often non-traditional. This session outlines discipline specific strategies to enhance success of new nurse investigators. The objectives of this workshop are to: 1) illustrate a successful program of nursing research, 2) expand on successful elements of research mentoring in both rich and impoverished research settings, 3) outline practical tips for developing research budgets, and 4) elucidate tips for successful proposals to the Nursing Research Initiative.

Activities:
Presentations include a combination of didactic lectures, group discussion, and hands on practice sessions. The panelists will then respond to questions posed by the audience.

Target Audience:
New and intermediate level nurse investigators who are preparing a research proposal for VA’s health services research or another agency.

Assumed Audience Familiarity with Topic:
Nurse investigators who have not yet successfully competed for independent funding as PI.
