Announcements

VINCI Staff is offering an open call-in hour on Wednesdays in February. Call in to ask questions or speak with other users. View the schedule for details (258 KB, PDF).

VINCI is a new initiative to improve researchers' access to VA data and to facilitate the analysis of that data while ensuring Veterans' privacy and data security. VINCI is still under development. We welcome early adopters who understand that their user experience may not be ideal.

Data

VINCI is a partner with the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and hosts all data available through CDW. Example data sets are:

  • CDW extractions from VistA
  • MedSAS in SAS and SQL
  • DSS in SAS and SQL

Applications

VINCI hosts many types of analytical applications. Generally, these applications will run much faster than on your local server. We attempt to update to the latest versions. Example applications are:

  • SAS Windows
  • SAS Grid Windows
  • Stata MP
  • SPSS Server
  • R

VINCI Workspace

Researchers will access the data along with the tools for reporting and analysis in a secure Workspace. VINCI has two Workspaces available to researchers depending on needs: a Standard Workspace or a Development Workspace. The Standard Workspace is provisioned so that each study has its own project site where multiple people can collaborate using a common set of software tools and files. The Development Workspace is isolated from other virtual machines to allow customization for specific development activities with local administration privileges for software developers, while still providing team collaboration and file sharing activities. This solution provides a single common access point using Remote Desktop Connection to connect from anywhere within the VA network.

Projects in Development

We are partnering with research projects such as the Consortium for Health Informatics Research (CHIR) to bring new types of data and new applications to VINCI. These will be structured data derived from text using natural language processing.

Funded by HSR&D, VINCI is a partnership between the VA Office of Information Technology (OI&T) and the Veterans Health Administration's Office of Research and Development (VHA ORD) and Office of Informatics and Analytics (VHA OIA).
