Aaron Schwartz, MD, PhD, is a practicing general internal medicine physician and health economist at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz (Philadelphia) VA Medical Center at the VA HSR COIN Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP). His expertise is in health care quality measurement, low-value medical care, and quasi-experimental policy evaluation. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy and the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz holds an undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College, an MD from Harvard Medical School, and a PhD in Health Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. His CDA, on the topic of understanding low-value Veteran care with natural experiments, will support his ultimate career goal of becoming a nationally recognized VA investigator and physician-economist who leads high-impact research on improving the value of VA health care. Prior national honors include the Daniel Ford Award for achievement in health services and outcomes research from Johns Hopkins University, the Lipkin Award and the Hamolsky Award for outstanding scientific presentations at the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Annual Meeting, and the AcademyHealth outstanding dissertation award honorable mention.
