Session Title
Making sense of the ideal and the real in PACT implementation using qualitative research Part II: The importance of being there.
The five national PACT Demonstration Labs differ in focus but share an investment in qualitative data to understand PACT implementation, in part because qualitative data can illustrate how the ideal of PACT is implemented in real VA clinics. Dr. Solimeo will briefly introduce this session and discuss how different kinds of qualitative data can enhance our understanding of PACT. Drs. Forman and Harrod will discuss how observation of PACT coaching sessions can both stimulate insight into the challenges of practice redesign and reveal the benefits of regular dialog between leadership and PACTs. Dr. Tuepker’s presentation will address the unanticipated impact of performance metrics on PACT implementation and their implications for clinical partners and future PACT research. Dr. Ono will speak about Clerical Associates’ roles in VISN 23 PACT teams, illustrating how qualitative data can help us see important dynamics that are often invisible.
Intended audience: This presentation will discuss qualitative methods and PACT, and will be relevant to primary care leadership or investigators who are interested in evaluating PACT, PACT training, or who are looking to establish collaborative research-operations partnerships.
