Kimberly Waddell, PhD, MSCI, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist and a Core Investigator at the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Waddell completed her PhD in Movement Science at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and her master's degree in occupational therapy at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Waddell's research explores how to improve the long-term health outcomes of adults with neurologic disease by leveraging insights from behavioral economics. This also includes using administrative data to better understand post-stroke recovery, disability, and identifying populations who may benefit from remote interventions to improve overall health. Her HSR Career Development Award, "Enhancing Function for Veterans Post-Stroke at the System and Individual Level" blends these interests to first identify populations of older Veterans living with greater functional impairment post-stroke. Then, Dr. Waddell will design and test a remote behavioral intervention to improve physical activity and function for older Veterans after a stroke.
