Long COVID Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN)

Thank you for visiting the Long COVID Practice-Based Research Network (LC-PBRN) website.

Objective

Our objective is to build the infrastructure for an impactful, sustainable Long COVID Practice Based Research Network (LC-PBRN) to convene and connect partners to centralize Long COVID clinical, research, and operational activities.

Goals

  • Coordinate the network of partners within the VA Long COVID ecosystem to create synergy across initiatives, avoid duplication of efforts, identify needs that inform pilot projects, capture the voice of Veterans with Long COVID, and facilitate feedback loops across the Long COVID ecosystem for efficient and timely sharing of information.
  • Identify research priorities and questions based on clinical observations of front-line clinicians that can be examined with existing data.
  • Facilitate short-term pilot studies to examine patient experiences, clinical presentations, diagnostic investigations and yield of testing, supportive treatments, and early outcomes; facilitate translation of pilot studies to development of larger scale research proposals.
  • Build a living Long COVID registry with stakeholder input to facilitate enrollment in clinical trials and provide data for research.
  • Support Long COVID clinics with data collection and analysis to document patterns and outcomes of Long COVID care in the VA.

Project Aims

  1. Manage infrastructure including advisory boards and the pilot project processes.
  2. Identify, engage with, and convene a network of partners to guide Long COVID practice, research, and policy.
  3. Build a stakeholder informed Long COVID registry to centralize recruitment, provide data for future research projects, and evaluate the quality-of-care Veterans with Long COVID receive.
  4. Collate tools and resources to support best practices that facilitate LC-PBRN-specific pilot studies and network-wide research efforts.
  5. Develop tools and strategies for multi-modal dissemination of PBRN findings and other Long COVID efforts relevant to partners.

Funding

The Long COVID PBRN is supported by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Primary funding comes from: VA HSR.
