Mary Shapiro, PhD, is currently a Clinical Investigator at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS), Affiliated Investigator with the South Central Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (SC MIRECC), and an Assistant Professor at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Shapiro completed her graduate degree in Clinical Psychology at the Florida State University. She completed her clinical internship at the Charleston Consortium and her postdoctoral residency at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Shapiro’s research is focused on enhancing mental health care for at-risk populations (e.g., Veterans, trauma-exposed individuals, and perinatal women) by developing scalable treatments designed to target symptoms of stress-related conditions. Her HSR Career Development Award, “Adaptation and examination of a trauma-informed intervention for pregnant Veterans,” aims to refine and examine an innovative treatment aimed at reducing anxiety, stress, and depression symptoms among trauma-exposed pregnant Veterans.
