Congratulations to Charlesnika T. Evans, PhD, MPH, winner of the American Paraplegia Society 2022 Excellence Award!

Dr. Evans is a Research Career Scientist with HSR&D’s Center of Innovation for Complex Chronic Healthcare and co-leader of the Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) program Combating Antimicrobial Resistance through Rapid Implementation of Available Guidelines and Evidence (CARRIAGE). Her major research interests focus on infection prevention and management (particularly healthcare-associated infections). Much of her work has focused on infections in Veterans with spinal cord injury (SCI) but has expanded to include other high-risk patient populations.

The American Paraplegia Society, part of the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals, gives the Excellence Award to individuals of national stature who have demonstrated scholarship and outstanding leadership in spinal cord medicine, with accomplishments that have had a positive nationwide impact on individuals with spinal cord injury or disease and their quality of life.
