Description: HSR&D is releasing a new request for applications on opioid safety and managing opioid use disorder (OUD). In accordance with these goals, this service-directed research solicitation will support focused research to inform, improve, and/or implement evidence-based practices to improve opioids safety and management of OUD. The priorities outlined in this solicitation reflect the research agenda developed by the 2019 State of the Art Conference on “Effective Management of Pain and Addiction: Strategies to Improve Opioid Safety”. The goal of these projects is to promote collaboration with VA partners and produce evidence that will prove useful to the development and evaluation of new and existing evidence-based practices for Veteran patients taking prescription opioids and those with opioid use disorder (OUD). During this session, HSR&D leadership, staff, and partners will present guidance for investigators considering submitting proposals in response to this solicitation. Intended audience: Researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in addressing opioids safety and improving the management of opioid use disorder.
