Description: Following the implementation of the VA MRSA Prevention Initiative in October 2007, the rate of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) decreased substantially. In order to evaluate whether these benefits were sufficient to warrant the cost of this extensive intervention, it is important to have accurate estimates of the consequences of MRSA HAIs. This presentation will describe our efforts to generate these estimates as well as the results from an economic evaluation the initiative. Dr. Michael Rubin, Section Chief of Epidemiology at VA Salt Lake City Health Care System, will be on the call as a discussant and available for Q&A with the audience. Intended audience: CDAs, health economists, ID service providers and others.
