Description: This talk is intended to foster understanding of how autonomic self-regulation (ASR) using resonant frequency breathing, Mindfulness, and compassion and positive emotional state empowers patients to manage centrally sensitized chronic pain. The autonomic and central nervous system pathways that are shared by centrally sensitized chronic pain and ANS self-regulation will be presented. Emerging data from our ongoing VA-funded research on HRVB and chronic pain in Veterans and two other studies will also be shared to familiarize attendees with the use of ANS science as a simple, powerful, and effective tool for bringing relief of chronic pain. Target Audience: Clinicians who work with patients with centrally sensitized chronic pain and everyone who is interested in connections of the autonomic system to health and well-being.
