Description: Changing provider behavior requires a multi-pronged approach that both creates a habit through learning and maintains awareness when needed. Strategies for implementing decision support require matching the environmental context with psychological processes to address both goals. A Dual Process perspective frames and informs this discussion. Intended audience: Human factors scientists, clinicians, and administrators interested in patient safety as a domain, quality improvement professionals, as well as those who are interested in how technology and workflow engineering can influence how clinicians think.
