Description: We are lucky to have TWO presentations on this theme. Ranak Trivedi of Ci2i: Social media is being increasingly used to connect with scientists and to disseminate scientific findings. The advantages include early and widespread dissemination, especially to lay persons or to a broader scientific community. In this talk, Dr. Trivedi will review common strategies to improve social connectivity, and review possible pitfalls. Gemmae Fix and Ryann Engle of CHOIR: Research dissemination has traditionally been unidirectional and focused on publishing in peer reviewed journals. More recently, there has been a movement toward broader communication strategies, concomitant with a rise in social media. Presenters will briefly review a range of ways to disseminate research, and focus on opportunities and challenges communicating via social media including Twitter and visual abstracts.
