Description: Overall purpose of this program: The VA Vital Status File contains death dates from multiple sources, improving VA researchers’ ability to ascertain mortality. This program provides an overview of current approaches to and issues in ascertaining mortality using VA data such as the Vital Status File and other sources. Course objectives: At the conclusion of the program participants should be able to: 1) Identify current approaches to ascertain mortality using the VA Vital Status File. 2) Describe recent research and methods regarding mortality ascertainment using VA data and other sources. 3) Describe limitations of using the VA Vital Status File to ascertain mortality.
