Description: Traumatic brain injury is prevalent among post-9/11 Veterans and a priority research topic for the VA. Similarly, opioids and firearms are two leading sources of Veterans’ mortality and morbidity. Epidemiologic research using VA and state data can provide important insights into patterns of prevalence, risk, and protective factors for these injuries which, in turn, can point to potential interventions. This presentation will describe the evolution of one CDA recipient’s research examining Veterans’ injury and using unique datasets to ask otherwise unanswerable questions. Intended Audience: Current and future career development award recipients interested in the progression of a VA research career focusing on various injury prevention and control topics.
