Bariatric Surgery and Cardiovascular Disease: Using electronic health records to emulate a target trial

Description: In this presentation, we will explain how the target trial framework may be used to avoid introducing bias in outcomes research analyses using a clinical example. Specifically, we will describe how to estimate the effect of bariatric surgery on cardiovascular disease among United States veterans. We will go through the steps of applying this framework by specifying a realistic target trial and then emulating this trial using electronic health records.
