Individual and Family-Level Drivers of Veteran Engagement in Psychotherapy for Post-Traumatic Stress: a Mixed Methods Study
Megan Shepherd-Banigan, PhD MPH
Seminar date: 11/9/2021
Description: PTSD is a disabling, chronic, and costly psychiatric disorder that is prevalent among Veterans. Despite efforts to improve access to VA mental health care, the proportion of Veterans who engage in PTSD therapy remains low. This CDA research explores drivers of treatment engagement at the Veteran and family levels, with a particular emphasis on factors that may be amenable to intervention. To do this, Dr Sheperd-Banigan applies a mixed methods approach that integrates findings from a machine learning analysis with data from semi-structured interviews with Veterans and their care-partners.
Intended audience: Researchers, clinicians, Veteran stakeholders, and all others with an interest in improving engagement in mental health therapy for PTSD.
