Description: In November 2022, the VHA’s National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NCP) and HSR&D co-hosted a Field Advisory Event (FAE) to develop recommendations for the evaluation of VHA’s Patient Centered Learning (PCL) Program, which aims to support VHA’s adoption of HHS’s Health Literate Care Model. (HLCM). The HLCM specifies how a health care organization might apply health literacy/health education strategies to promote productive interactions between Veterans/Caregivers and health care teams, to produce measurable improvement in patient experience, health, and health care outcomes.
The educational objectives of the Cyberseminar include:
•Specify elements of a framework for evaluating implementation of the HLCM in VHA;
•Identify existing and desired measures for evaluating HLCM implementation at 3 levels: organizational; productive interactions; and population health;
• Share recommendations to close gaps between existing and desired measures; and
• Identify research opportunities to further develop measures and methods for evaluating HLCM implementation.
