Description: This is a basic introduction to sample size and power calculations for researchers. It will demonstrate the basic principles of statistical design as they pertain to these issues. We will go through the ideas of statistical error, treatment effect and the parameters associated with these. Illustrations will be given for hypotheses involving means and proportions with associated examples. Discussion of available software to perform these calculations will also be included.
