Hybrid Agent-Based/Discrete Event Simulation Models for Analysis of Health Care Delivery Systems

Description: We present a simulation model incorporating a discrete event simulation of an eye clinic with an agent-based population of diabetic Veterans. This model may be used to examine the effects of policy changes at the population level. Conversely, changes in population characteristics may studied at the level of demand for service at the clinic. These models allow testing of complex, potentially risky, or expensive change prior to implementation.
The target audience is policy makers, HSR&D researchers, clinicians, and administrators seeking an introduction to the power of simulation modeling and the type of insights available through these analyses. The level of content covered is beginner to intermediate.
