Description: Dr. Burgess will present results of the Learning to Apply Mindfulness to Pain (LAMP) multisite, pragmatic clinical trial, which compares two scalable, mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) for Veterans with chronic pain. Both LAMP interventions improved pain functioning (the primary outcome) and important biopsychosocial outcomes (e.g., pain intensity; anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder; physical function; fatigue; sleep disturbance; participation in social roles/activities) over 12 months, compared to usual care, among Veterans with chronic pain and high levels of psychiatric comorbidity. These approaches to delivering MBIs could help accelerate the implementation of nonpharmacological pain treatment in the VA and other healthcare systems.
