Description: Although rates of complementary and integrative health (CIH) service use among Veterans with chronic musculoskeletal pain are higher nationally than other Veteran subpopulations, rates nevertheless represent a small minority of Veterans with chronic pain. Leveraging an existing retrospective cohort of over 300,000 Veterans on long-term opioid therapy with common pain conditions, investigators conducted a survey of a stratified random sample whose charts indicated no CIH use between 2017-2022. In this talk, Dr. Black will describe our survey methods and results summarizing reasons Veterans did not engage in CIH.
