Opioids in Chronic Pain and PTSD: Liability or Potential Therapy?

by Karen Seal, MD MPH
Seminar date: 1/7/2014

Description: In this talk, Dr. Seal will explore underlying mechanisms to explain the high co-prevalence of PTSD and chronic pain in veterans as well as the phenomenon of co-occurring PTSD and high-risk opioid use, examining how and why opioid use is a particularly pernicious problem in PTSD. She will then examine the converse situation in which a selective opioid receptor agonist may be beneficial for individuals with the triad of chronic pain, PTSD and opioid use disorder.
