Effects of low-level blast exposure on the nervous system

Description: Evidence for the effects of low-level blast exposure in humans and animals will be summarized. The relationship between blast-induced mild traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder will be reviewed with emphasis on the difficulty of distinguishing the two disorders. The possible relationship of blast exposure to chronic neurodegenerative diseases as well as the potential effects of subclinical blast exposure will be discussed. Target audience: Clinicians who treat or are interested in blast related traumatic brain injury.
