Patient-Centered Care for Minority Veterans: PACT Implementation and Outpatient Healthcare Experiences

by Leslie Hausmann, PhD ; Susan Hernandez, PhDc
Seminar date: 2/18/2015

Description: Dr. Hausmann will review her research using the Survey of Healthcare Experience of Patients (SHEP) to identify racial and ethnic differences in outpatient experiences of Veterans. She will discuss the implications of her findings for VA quality improvement efforts to ensure the delivery of high quality and equitable healthcare to all Veterans. She will also describe on-going work to understand facility-level variation in patient healthcare experiences in the context of PACT implementation. Ms. Hernandez will review her research regarding whether PACT is reaching minority Veterans. Using the PACT Implementation Progress Index (PI2) she presents findings from analyses to determine whether PACT was implemented differently in facilities based in the percentage of minority Veterans comprising their patients. The target audience includes primary care leadership, clinicians, members of operations, and researchers interested in health equity, quality improvement, and patient experiences with VA care.
