Management of Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Spinal Cord Injury

Evans CT, Weaver FM, Joseph G. Management of Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Spinal Cord Injury. Paper presented at: American Paraplegia Society Annual Meeting; 2002 Sep 1; Las Vegas, NV.

Abstract:

Urinary tract infections (UTI) is reported to be the most frequent medical complication after spinal cord injury (SCI), however there is little on how best to manage and prevent UTIs. This study reviewed medical records and clinical data to examine the variability in identification and management of recurrent UTI in the SCI population at 2 VA SCI centers. The results indicate there is significant variation in management of UTIs by site and by whether or not the UTI is recurrent.
