New roles for geriatric psychiatrists and mental health providers in the era of healthcare reform

Streim JE, Oslin DW. New roles for geriatric psychiatrists and mental health providers in the era of healthcare reform. Paper presented at: American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Annual Meeting; 2013 Mar 16; Los Angeles, CA.

Abstract:

This symposium will describe opportunities for geriatric mental health providers to assume new roles in the evolving healthcare system, especially as evidence-based models of collaborative care are implemented within primary care practice settings. Panelists will address both the opportunities and challenges of working with accountable care organizations (ACOs), patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs), and programs of all-inclusive care for elders (PACE programs), and will engage the audience in an interactive discussion designed to share experiences related to staff training, contracting and payment issues, provision of clinical services, and quality measures.
